The 2019 remake of the game is also one of the more scary items in the series, and it certainly shines through here. It’s incredible to experience the game’s intricately detailed world in first person, and it feels great to shine with the flashlight in VR. It’s not available to everyone yet, but it’s coming soon and it’s really taking shape. This mode gives you optional first-person support with motion controls (you can also play it in standard third-person view with a controller). The work on Resident Evil 2 has come a long way since then, so much so that we were able to get our first hands-on with the upcoming mod and replay some of the opening sequences in the game.

We first reported that the modder was working on VR integration for Capcom’s two most recent remakes back in August. The download is right here, and a trailer showcasing improvements can be found below. We have played the incredible Resident Evil 2 VR mod from praydog with 10 minutes of gameplay below. If you want to install the mod, you must own the latest PC version of Resident Evil 4.

Textures have been recreated with respect to original design, and are far higher fidelity than what Capcom added into the Resident Evil 4 Ultimate Edition which released earlier this year. The mod has currently reached a new milestone in development, and the team has released a texture pack that encompases the entire village level in Resident Evil 4. Going so far as actually visiting real world locations in which textures and assets from Resident Evil 4 were based on and recreating new, high resolution textures, the RE4 HD Project is being made by incredibly passionate Resident Evil fans with some serious skills. I’ve been watching the Resident Evil 4 HD Project for some time now, shifting through their progress reports and comparison images from time to time, often incredibly impressed by the work these guys are doing.
